Privacy Policy & Data Handling

Published by: Semino Privacy Council
Effective Date: June 2026

1. The "No BS" Data Guarantee

At Semino, our entire mission is to strip away the noise from the financial industry. That same philosophy applies to how we handle your personal data. We believe your digital footprint belongs to you.

We explicitly do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third-party advertisers, hedge funds, data brokers, or any other entities. Your data is never our product.

Below is the exact, plain-English breakdown of what data we collect, why we need it, and how we protect it in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).[1]

2. What Data We Collect & Why

We only collect the absolute minimum amount of data required to operate the Semino platform and deliver our insights directly to you.

  • Email Addresses: If you actively join a product waitlist (such as FinLingo) or subscribe to our Sunday market breakdown, we securely collect your email address. We use it strictly for two things: notifying you about the launches you signed up for, and sending you our newsletter. Nothing else — and every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe.
  • Basic Analytics Data: When you visit Semino.net, we collect basic, anonymized usage data (such as your browser type, general geographical region, and which dictionary terms or articles you interact with most). We utilize this data to understand which financial concepts are causing the most confusion, allowing us to prioritize future content.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

We use essential cookies and browser Local Storage to ensure the website runs securely and smoothly, and to save your UI preferences (like hiding banners you've already dismissed). We also use basic analytics cookies to measure overall site traffic.[2]

When you first visit the Semino platform, you will be presented with a banner allowing you to accept or decline non-essential tracking cookies. You are fully capable of browsing the Semino Dictionary and reading our market articles completely anonymously if you choose to decline.

4. Third-Party Services & Infrastructure

While we do not sell your data, we utilize secure, industry-standard third-party software providers to maintain the platform's infrastructure. These providers act as data processors and are strictly bound by their own GDPR-compliant privacy policies; they cannot use your data for their independent purposes.

  • Hosting & Deployment: Our website and codebase are securely hosted on Netlify.
  • Cloud Database Storage: User data, such as waitlist email addresses, is securely stored using Google Cloud / Firebase architecture. This data is encrypted at rest and bound by Google Cloud's enterprise privacy agreements.
  • Email Delivery & Contact Forms: We utilize secure third-party email delivery services and Web3Forms to route messages and distribute the weekly newsletter efficiently without compromising your inbox security.
  • Spam Protection: We use Google reCAPTCHA on our forms to prevent spam and abuse. This service collects hardware and software information (such as device and application data) and sends it to Google for analysis. Your use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Because reCAPTCHA is essential to protect the site against bots and abuse, it operates on the basis of our legitimate interest in security and may load before optional analytics cookies are accepted.
  • Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 (via Firebase Analytics), provided by Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC, to measure aggregate site traffic and understand which dictionary terms and articles are most useful. Analytics runs in Google "Consent Mode": analytics cookies are set only after you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, and advertising storage is permanently disabled on our site. Data may be processed on Google servers in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Content Delivery Networks: A small number of technical resources (such as our math-rendering scripts) are delivered via the trusted jsDelivr CDN, and the Firebase SDK is delivered from Google servers. These services receive your IP address as a technical necessity of delivering files; they set no cookies and are not used for tracking. All fonts, icons, and charting libraries are hosted directly on our own servers.

5. Your Rights Under GDPR

Under European Union law, you are the sole owner of your personal data. You possess the right to control what happens to it at any given time:

  • The Right to Unsubscribe: Every single newsletter or communication we send contains a prominent, one-click "Unsubscribe" button. Selecting this will immediately and permanently remove you from our mailing list.
  • The Right to Be Forgotten: You may email us at any time to request the permanent deletion of your email address and any associated data from our active servers.
  • The Right to Access: You may request a complete copy of any personal data we currently hold regarding your profile.
  • The Right to Rectification: If any personal data we hold about you is inaccurate (for example, a mistyped email address), you may ask us to correct it.
  • The Right to Data Portability: You may request your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • The Right to Object & Restrict: You may object to, or ask us to restrict, any specific processing of your personal data.
  • The Right to Complain: If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national Data Protection Authority. We would, however, appreciate the chance to resolve your concern directly first.

6. How Long We Keep Data & Where It Lives

We keep personal data only for as long as it serves the purpose you gave it to us for:

  • Waitlist & Newsletter Emails: Kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion, at which point they are permanently removed from our active systems.
  • Contact Form Messages: Kept for up to 12 months so we can handle follow-up questions, then deleted.
  • Analytics Data: Aggregated usage statistics are retained under Google Analytics' standard 14-month retention window.

Legal Bases: We process analytics data and send emails based on your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time. We operate security measures (such as reCAPTCHA) and core site infrastructure based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in keeping the platform secure and functional.

International Transfers: Our processors (Google, Netlify, Web3Forms) may process data on servers in the United States. These transfers are safeguarded under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. Children's Privacy

Semino's educational content is free for anyone to read, but our platform is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a minor has submitted personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Policy Updates & Future Features

If Semino launches new premium features in the future (such as advanced interactive dashboards or the FinLingo ecosystem) that require us to collect payment information or establish user accounts, we will update this policy accordingly. We commit to notifying all active users transparently before any significant changes to our data handling procedures are implemented.

9. Contact Us

Data Controller: The data controller responsible for personal data processed via semino.net is Kiril Koparanov, operating the Semino platform pending the formal registration of the corresponding legal entity (see our Terms of Service).
